Georgia Alomes celebrates the wicket of Sam Cotton

Round 1 saw reigning premiers North Hobart’s hope of asserting dominance on the competition diminish with the result of a loss against rivals Clarence at the TCA Ground.

North Hobart won the toss and sent Clarence in to bat, where opening batters, Belinda Grant and Emma Thompson-Flint were Clarence’s most impressive with the bat, scoring 24 and 37 respectively. Grace Pullen and Kirsten Palfrey both took two wickets for North Hobart, while Jayde Davis claimed one wicket.

At the end of their 20 overs, the Roos finished their innings at 5/112.

In reply, Maddison Brooks impressed with the ball and in the field for Clarence, taking 3/20 and achieving three run outs. Hannah Short did all she could to steer North Hobart to victory, scoring an unbeaten 32, however the Demons fell 23 runs short of victory.

The Greater Northern Raiders inaugural season started off perfectly, with a 21-run victory over Lindisfarne at the NTCA No. 2 Ground.

Batting first, the Raiders posted 3/124 with solid contributions coming from Caitlin Webster (39) and Rhianne Hack (24no).

Georgia Alomes was the best with the ball claiming 2/16 off 4.

In reply, the early wicket of Veronica Pyke didn't deter Paris Crowe's game as she dispatched the ball to all parts of the ground on her way to 58 (47 balls and 7 boundaries), however, it wasn't enough as the Lighting fell 21 runs short of victory.

Sam Cotton (2/24) and Amy Rose Duggan (2/26) took two wickets each while Hack, Dana Lester and Sophie Parkin were all economical with the ball.

In the match between South Hobart Sandy Bay and University of Tasmania, SHSB’s Holly Armitage top scored for the entire round, scoring 88no off just 57 deliveries, featuring 13 fours and 2 maximums to help set up SHSB with a hard to beat 3/163 off their 20 overs

In response, Tayla Wigg top scored for University, scoring 21no, whilst Linsey Da Costa took 2/10 off three overs for SHSB to help the Sharks to a convincing 77-run victory.

In other matches, Brighton’s first match of their inaugural season saw a loss to Glenorchy, whilst New Town defeated Kingborough at New Town Oval.
