Mitchell Owen celebrates his maiden 1st Grade Century.

Following his move from Kingborough in the off-season for greater opportunities, New Town all-rounder Mitchell Owen quickly made himself known as a future star of the competition following his assault on a strong Lindisfarne bowling line-up that included three First Class front lines bowlers.

CTPL 1st Grade Round 1 Scorecards

Coming in at 4/10, Owen combined with Thomas Gravina and both set about restoring the innings, and did so in emphatic fashion, by combining for 255 for the fifth wicket, a record-breaking partnership for any wicket in the club’s history. Owen blasted 159 off 127 balls, including 17 fours and 6 sixes while Gravina posted his maiden First Grade ton to help New Town to 7/284.

Needing 285 for victory, Lindisfarne lost Mac Wright early in the innings but thanks to a commanding unbeaten century from Ben McDermott (137no), Lindisfarne rallied and eventually chased the total with 22 balls to spare.

In the remaining matches, Kingborough’s Clive Rose (5/14) tore through Glenorchy’s batting order, helping the club to a comfortable 92 run victory while at Kangaroo Bay, Clarence easily disposed of the Greater Northern Raiders by 7 wickets.

The action continues this weekend with the Greater Northern Raiders hosting University at Windsor Park (Riverside), SHSB will travel to Kangaroo Bay to face Clarence, Lindisfarne will square off against Glenorchy while North Hobart tackle Kingborough at Kingston Twin Ovals.
