The New Town Cricket Club recently held the Jock Coe Medal Presentation to celebrate the achievements of the club and individual players for another season.
As was the case last season, it was the young Bucks that led the way in the 2018/19 period, with the Boys’ Under 15’s side once again claiming the Twenty20 premiership and finishing runners up in the One Day format. The Under 17 Girls side managed to go one better than last year, claiming the premiership in the Twenty20 competition in an exciting game against North Hobart. The Under 18’s Vacation Competition also showcased the Buck’s youth as they claimed the trophy in a fantastic battle against Clarence.
The exceptional year put forward by these young sides was reflected at the Rodwell & Fazackerley Medals night in March at which Sam Wright claimed the Michael Di Venuto Medal and Jesse Willmott claimed the Tim Paine Medal, while Ryan Lees as well as Emily Mifsud and Emma Manix-Geeves featured in the Men’s and Women’s CTPL Team of the Year respectively. Jack and Jesse Willmott had great performances with the ball throughout the season, which was reflected in them taking out the Under 17 Boys and Under 15 Boys bowling average awards with averages of 9.95 and 11.66 respectively.
In the Club Awards, Ryan Lees claimed the Jock Coe Medal as the First Grade Player of the Year while Emily Mifsud claimed the Women’s Player of the Year after another outstanding season with the Bucks.
