2016-17 Champions Clarence celebrate their win

The eagerly anticipated start of the CTPL season is on this weekend with a double-header of Kookaburra Cup action which will put the spotlight on  some of the state's best up and coming talent and some of the Tasmanian Tigers favourite stars.

The CT Under 19’s will feature in this season’s Kookaburra Cup for the first time and face a big test first up on Saturday when they take on Kingborough. The Knights welcome back current Australian contracted player Jackson Bird, playing his first game for the club since the 2016 final of the Kookaburra Cup. The game will also be the Kingborough debut of Tigers contracted player Nick Buchanan and a CTPL coaching debut for Hurricanes contracted play Clive Rose. The Knights will be without the services of Beau Webster who is on duty with the CAX1 in the JLT One-Day Cup and 2016/17 Emerson Rodwell Medallist Harry Evans who has relocated back to Sydney.

The Kookaburra Cup will allow the CT Under 19’s to play in the 10-round roster as well as compete in the National Championships that are being held in Hobart and Launceston this December. Cricket Tasmania talent manager Ben Rohrer said: “It’s brilliant to get the chance to have the players play in the top league in the state. We are hoping to stretch the players and test their game”. The Under 19 team features current Tigers rookie player Liam Devlin.

The test will continue on Sunday when the CT Under 19’s match up against a very strong North Hobart outfit that is packed with current Tasmanian Tigers players Jordan Silk, Jake Doran, Corey Murfet, Caleb Jewel and Cameron Boyce.
