PL Season Review 20103-14 (Women's)

The 2013/14 CTPL Women’s competition was played under the Twenty20 format with an intrastate competition established that comprised of one-day matches.

At the conclusion of the regular season, Glenorchy had only lost one match and were atop the table with 46 points. New Town (38 points) narrowly edged out rivals North Hobart (37 points) with defending premiers Kingborough taking fourth on 35 points. Clarence (27 points), South Hobart Sandy Bay (14 points), University (6 points) and Lindisfarne (5 points) rounded out the table.

Both semi-finals were won comfortably by the lower placed side after Kingborough defeated Glenorchy and North Hobart defeated New Town to set up a repeat of 2012/13 Grand Final.

In the Grand Final played at Clare Street Oval, Kingborough won the toss and elected to bat as they had done in the semi-final but from that point onwards it was all downhill for the defending champions. Sasha Maloney was the only Knight to reach double figures with 22 off 44 balls. The Knights were all out for 53 from 18 overs, Sarah Birch was the pick of the Demons bowlers with 4/6 as Hannah Short and Stephanie Nichols collected 2/10 and 2/15 respectively.

North Hobart didn’t let slip their chance to make up for previous years defeat. Hannah Short (14) was the only wicket for Kingborough as Veronica Pyke 24 (19) and Sarah Birch 16 (37) guided the Demons to victory in the 12th over finishing 1/55.

For her all round effort Sarah Birch was awarded player of the final.
